Perspective - Khaen (Khaen-ta-lup)

"Are P'Tinn and P'Pete really romantic partners?"

"P'Tinn is truly handsome, perfectly matching P'Pete."

"P'Tinn is like a divine angel born alongside P'Pete."

"P'Tinn, your angel, is your older brother's Phua!"

Now, don't misunderstand, I didn't actually say the last sentence directly to my younger sister's face. Even though I've already given myself over to Ai'Tinn in full, I'm not bold enough to say it out loud just yet. I only tease her by mimicking her, pursing my lips, putting on a high-pitched voice, and acting all cutesy and foolish when talking about my Phua—oops, I mean my romantic partner, and Ai'Pete, my friend.

"What are you grumbling about?" While I'm mumbling to myself, Ai'Good, my close friend in the faculty, pipes up, making me turn to face him fully before asking...

"Ai'Good, do you think that handsome men should be with other handsome men?"

"Huh?" He looks confused before disagreeing with me.

"Are you sure you didn't say that wrong? Handsome men should be with beautiful women, right? Why pair them up together? You must have limits to your craziness, man." When he says that, I just sigh at him, waggling my finger in a cheeky way, causing him to frown and look like he's about to swat me.

"I'm not talking to you anymore. You don't understand anything at all," I tell him, then I turn back to pay attention to the teacher who is teaching at the front of the classroom.
The midterm exams for the second term have already passed, but my life hasn't changed much. No, it has changed a little, actually. The change is that...

"You took a while to come out."

There it is. The change in my life is waiting for me outside the faculty, so I have to walk ahead in a daze to find him.

"Why are you waiting here? Aren't you on vacation?" The midterms for us are during the winter break exams of those international students.

This makes Tinn put his phone in his bag and stand up. He tells me with a straight face, "I'm here to pick up my romantic partner to go home."

In the past, I thought I was shameless. Nowadays, you are more shameless than I am, Tinn.

I think that, but I'm too lazy to say it.

I'm trying to reduce my habit of talking too much because Tinn has started saying that I talk nonsense. However, when I talk nonsense, he often laughs at me. Besides, I'm not embarrassed about being picked up by my partner. I'm actually a little pleased.

Having a partner to pick me up and take me out to eat saves a lot of snack money. Even though I'm not materialistic, I think Tinn is trying to spoil me rotten. When I think about this, I can't help but think about my mobile phone. In the second month, I tried to pay him back, but do you know what he said?

"We share things, because we're together. It's no big deal."

It's true that this phone is still in his name, but I complain. "You can't make me the Little Girl to your Wealthy Male."

[[อีหนู (i-noo) is literally "little girl," but used to mean fancy woman, kept woman, mistress, or concubine in a derogatory sense. อาเสี่ย (ah-sia) is literally "rich man," commonly referring to a wealthy older male, often seen as a financial patron. It is sometimes translated uncle, but is not the term for a biological uncle.]]

We don't need to buy things for each other when you're together. I've never given him anything that I can remember.

I only receive (even if mostly it's just food). However, when I try to stuff a thousand baht into his hands, do you know what he does?

"Hey, what are you doing?!"

He acts like he's about to tear-up the thousand-baht bill, so I immediately snatch it up, staring at him wide-eyed. As for Ai'Tinn, he just raises one eyebrow.

"That's a gift I gave you. If you return the money, it's not a gift anymore. So, if you give money to me, I'll just tear it up."

I get so irritated with him!!! Yeah, the rich guy, the Khun-chai, the one smart enough to tear up a thousand-baht bill for fun. In the end, because I couldn't bear wasting money, I end up becoming his Little Girl after all.

Or isn't that right? Little Girls are the ones who take money and sleep with someone, right? Well, I've taken things from him and slept with him too.

"What are you thinking?"

"Thinking about how I'm a Little Girl to Sia Tinn." When he asks, I tell him straight, making him frown as he walks ahead of me.

"What Little Girl? And I'm not a rich man."

"Oh come on, being this generous, what should I call you if not wealthy man? Daddy Dear? Hey, hey, hey, that's cool, I like it. Other people call their lovers things like Ai'Boo, Ai'Bee, Miss Big-forehead, Ai'Fat. I think I'll call you Daddy Dear instead. It's fucking brilliant, I love it! So, what will you call me then? Oh yeah, Little Girl works. Ha! So funny. Daddy Dear and Little Girl." I burst out laughing, imagining Ai'Tinn as an old man, chubby, bald, with his arm around me.

[[Translator's Note: ป๋าขา (Pa'kha) literally means Daddy dear or Daddy sir.]]

Oh my God, it's hilarious!

"Geez, you're really good at stuff like this."

"I'm good at everything!" I brag, making Tinn shake his head.

"So, what do you want to eat tonight?"

"See that? You're taking me out to eat again. So fucking wealthy." I still don't stop messing with him.

I think teasing Ai'Tinn is fun, making him break that serious, stone-faced look. Then just when I think he's about to glare at me like I'm a bug crawling into his shoe, he turns and smiles.

"Well then, let's go quickly, Little Girl. Come do your duty to Daddy Dear."

I don't think I'm really embarrassed about much of anything, you know?

Being with Tinn for a long time, though, can be embarrassing sometimes (Yeah, we've just been dating for a little over a week, so it's not really long). However, when he turns to smile at me, raising one arm as if to let me walk along with him, I just freeze. My heart pounds, I suddenly have to use the bathroom, and my face gets hot again.

Look at him; Tinn really is handsome.

"Wait a second, let's stop by the football field first. There's a match today."

"But you made plans with me first," he says.

I almost laugh. Yeah, this guy acts so childish.

“I'm not saying I’m going to the football field to play football. Ai Pond borrowed my book, so I made plans to give it to him there. I’ll go there first, and then we’ll grab something to eat. By the way, can I crash at your place again tonight? Actually, never mind—doesn’t look like it’ll work out. Next time, I’ll make it wild for you.”

What? I’m just stating facts. So why does Ai Tinn sigh at me?

“Say that next time you’ll make up for it, instead of saying you’ll make it wild, Khaen.” He looks genuinely exasperated with my words.

What? I just speak plainly, and I still get scolded. Oh well, whatever.

I shrug as I drag him along to the football field. It’s fine—at least he doesn’t scold or complain and just quietly follows me. Along the way, I chatted with him about random stuff. Right now, though, there’s only one thing on my mind.

There's really only one thing on my mind right now. "Le really is openly cheering for you and Pete."

"Is she still at it?"

Yeah, I'm the one who told him about my younger sister. The first time he heard, he called her thoughtless, and we almost got into a fight. After thinking about it though, I kind of agree with him. Le is pretty thoughtless, honestly. It's clear as day that Pete already has Ae.

"She's still at it. She keeps saying you're some kind of god who descended to Earth, just like Pete. Must be reading too many comics. Why do girls always think good-looking people have to date other good-looking people?"

"Right? After all, someone as good-looking as me is dating someone like you."

"What's that supposed to mean!" I yell at him, my voice sharp, and he just laughs.

"Not handsome, not rich, not good at studying. Oh, I'm not the one saying that, you said it yourself."

I'm so annoyed by him, seriously. Back when we weren't dating, he wasn't this much of a dog-mouth. Now that we're dating though, now that he's got me, his mouth is sharper than pruning shears.

"Then go date someone else," I'm getting irritated now, and he just laughs.

"No matter how much you kick me out, I'm not going."

I'm really ridiculous, though. Just a minute ago, I'm pouting, but when he says he wouldn't go, I grin wide. The football field is now in view, and I see that quite a few people are standing on the sidelines. However as I get closer, I start to see who's among them.

"It's Le! What the hell, how did she get here?" I shout.

That braided-haired girl with glasses is standing next to my sister with her bangs. Yes, that's definitely my little sister. Then standing beside her are Ai'Pond, Ai'Ae, and Ai'Pete, all huddled together.

Thunk.

There. She sees me now.

Once she sees me, I reluctantly walk over. I see Le looking at me and Ai'Tinn, but excuse me, she looks right past us and smiles sweetly at Ai'Pete.

Fine. Go ahead, ship them all you want. Ship away. Ship as much as you like. Your brother is extremely annoyed with your smile.

"What are you doing here?" I ask my sister curtly. Lately, I don't really feel like seeing her face, and Lemon scowls back at me.

"I came with Chomphu. She has brought snacks for P'Ae and P'Pete." I turn to look at my sister's friend, and I don't know if I'm imagining it, but it seems like Chomphu is hiding behind my sister more than usual. Every time I see her, she's usually so hyperactive. Now the way she looks at Ai'Ae and Ai'Pete… seems oddly sad.

Chomphu says, "I'm just doing my duty as a sister."

Why is she telling us that she's doing her duty as a sister? Ugh, I'm confused by her.

"Hello, P'Tinn. Are you here to see P'Pete?" Then, my lovely little sister turns and greets the person standing beside me.

Thunk.

I don't think I'm the only one who freezes; it seems like the whole group is startled. Only Ai'Pond is looking left and right, glancing around. I don't pay attention to him though. I just reach into my bag, grab five comic books, and hand them over to him.

"These are the ones you wanted to borrow. I'm leaving now."

Let me confirm again—lately, I don't really want to be near Ai'Le.

Once I finish speaking, I turn and grab Ai'Tinn's arm. I don't greet anyone. I just want to leave. But my sister—

"Oh, Khaen, if you want to leave, go ahead. Why are you dragging P'Tinn with you?"

"Because he…"

"Because he?" Why is she repeating after me? If I could grab her head right now, I would. But in reality, I just huff, while—

Tinn starts to say, "It's because Khaen and I…"

Smush!

Before Ai'Tinn can spill the truth about our relationship, I instinctively turn to clamp his mouth shut and then look back at my sister, who's narrowing her eyes.

"What about you and P'Khaen, huh?" Pete asks Tinn.

"Haha, Ai'Pond never misses any fun, does he?" Ai'Pond doesn't help at all. Instead, he fans the flames, making my sister even more curious.

"There's nothing, Nong Le."

"Does P'Pete know about this too?"

My sister is already smart, so I'm not surprised that after Ai'Pete's comment, she's starting to catch on that the guys here know something she doesn't.

She turns back to me. "P'Khaen, what secret are you hiding? If you don't tell me, I'm going to tell Mom."

"There's no secret! There's no secret at all!"

"That tone means there is something." She catches on to me again, and now I'm starting to get flustered.

Now, Ai'Le doesn't care about anyone else. She steps toward me as I continue to clamp my hand over Ai'Tinn's mouth. She stares at me intently, forcing me to speak, and I'm sweating bullets.

"There's nothing."

"Oh, come on, not cool, Ai'Khaen. If you've got something, just tell your sister straight up! Acting all shady like this makes you look suspicious as a bloody fucking cur." Injects Pond.

"You're not helping, so shut up, Ai'Pond!" I don't usually get mad at my friends, but I'm furious at Ai'Pond for pressuring me even more, while Lemon keeps staring at me.

"P'Khaen."

"There's nothing."

"P'Khaen."

"I said there's nothing!"

"Ai'P'Khaen!" The moment she raises her voice, my already fragile patience snaps, because…

"You really want to know what I'm hiding? Fine, pay close attention!"

Grab.

Smooch!

What do I do? I yell right into my sister's face and then yank Ai'Tinn's shirt and kiss him right there. Just out of pure rage, to show her exactly what's going on, I shove my tongue into Ai'Tinn's mouth.

Then, I'm sorry to say, Ai'Khun-chai is cooperating fully, to the max.

Smooch… Smooch…

He kisses me hard, and I kiss him back just as hard. When I pull away, I see Ai'Tinn… smiling.

"Did you all see that? See who Ai'Tinn's partner is!" I turn to ask my sister, feeling triumphant, but...

The comic books in Ai'Pond's hands drop to the ground.

Lemon's bag falls with a thud.

Ai'Ae and Ai'Pete stare at me, wide-eyed.

Chomphu's eyes are as big as goose eggs.

And most importantly... The football players all turn to look at me at the same time.

Clap… clap... clap clap clap...

At first, someone I don't know starts clapping, and then, after a moment, others join in.

Soon, I hear the voice of my beloved older brother, P'Type, shouting. "Way to go, little bro! That's how it's done!" Then he bursts into loud laughter, echoing across the football field.

Well, even though I usually don't care, am shameless, and resilient, the fact that there are dozens of people (and I know every one of them) staring at me…

All at once, I start to feel numb in my hands and feet, my breathing becomes labored, and my face heats up as if it's about to explode.

"You're bolder than I thought."

"Congrats, Khaen."

Sigh "How many times have I told you to think before you speak? Embarrassed now?"

You don't need to ask who said which line. I just know that right now, I turn to look at my sister, who's shaking her finger back and forth between me and Ai'Tinn.

"P'... P'Khaen and P'Tinn... P..."

Mmm. "Yes, P'Khaen and I are dating."

Do you think I'm going to stay and listen? I grab Ai'Tinn's hand, who still has the nerve to confirm everything to my sister, and immediately sprint off like I'm in a 4x100 relay. Why, even though I'm dying of embarrassment, is Ai'Tinn laughing so loudly that I don't know what to do with myself?

"I'm glad you like me enough to be brave like that."

I don't like you that much. I just lost my patience! It's over. The life of Ai'Khaen is finished.

At this moment, all I can do is lament over my reckless courage, forgetting where I was.

Perspective - Pete (Pitchaya)

I still can't stop laughing about what happened the other day.

Khaen pulled Tinn in for a kiss.

The more I think about it, the funnier and more embarrassing it gets. I admire their bravery and am happy for them, especially after seeing them bickering at first, but now they're officially together. Although I do feel sorry for Khaen, who probably got interrogated by his sister when he got home. Nong Le really grilled us with questions, and Ai'Pond told her everything.

Actually, Chomphu brought some snacks for Ae and me the other day and asked: "Can I be your little sister, Brothers?"

I used to be worried that she'd steal Ae away from me, but I'm not so cruel as to reject her sincerity. It's obvious she might still like Ae, but it's not wrong for me to want a cute little sister. Chomphu said that one day, she'll be a good sister to us. I'll be waiting for that day.

It's past 10 PM. I glance at the clock, seeing how late it is, yet Ae still hasn't come back. Earlier, he told me he was busy preparing for an engineering faculty event, but since he told me late, and since I'm on winter break, I came back to the dorm already.

It must be love—something that changes life, making everything sound meaningful~

My phone rings, and I quickly reach for it. I don't even need to check the name because I know who it is. I set this song as Ae's ringtone only.

"Yes, Ae?" I greet him.

"Ai'Pete… Ai'Pete… Pete khrab"

Hmm?

I pull the phone away to look at it, certain that it's Ae's voice, but it sounds more drawn out than usual. More importantly, he called me "Pete khrab," which isn't normal.

"Ae, where are you?" I hear loud music in the background.

"Where am I… Where could I be? Ai'Pond, where the hell am I? A bar, of course! Ai'Ae is drunk and calling his Mia! Ha!"

I hear Pond's voice cutting in. He sounds just as drunk, though he seems slightly more coherent.

"Ai'Ae's Mia? Who? Who the hell is that? I don't knooowww." A voice I don't recognize comes through the phone, but it's all muffled and unclear.

I stand up immediately, worried about where Ae could be.

"Ae, where are you? Should I come get you?"

"Noo, no, no, no need… I just wanted to say I miss you… I miss my wife so much."

"Ae, you're definitely drunk." He usually doesn't talk to me in such a sweet, pleading tone.

"Pete… do you know how cute you are…? How can someone be so freaking cute? You smell so good too."

I start to feel my face heat up. I've never heard Ae talk about me like this before. However, I'm more worried about him than anything else. I've never seen Ae drunk. When he went on a trip to Pran with his friends, I knew he drank, but he still talked to me normally. Then, just as I was about to ask him more questions, the call abruptly ends.

"Ae!" I can't sit still anymore. I try calling back, but his phone is off—probably out of battery. I decide to call Pond instead.

"Hello."

"Pond, where are you guys? Why did Ae call me like that?" I ask quickly, but it seems like Pond has more sense than Ae right now.

"We're at the bar behind the university. After finishing work at the faculty, the seniors invited us out for drinks. Ai'Ae got plastered. They wanted to see what he'd be like drunk. He's passed out next to me. He just randomly called you… Hey, Ai'Ae! Ai'Pete is on the phone!"

It's clear that Pond is much more sober than Ae.

"My Mia… Why did my Mia call you… sneaking behind my back… with me? Damn it!"

"Hahaha, he's so wasted! Come get him already. If he gets any drunker, he might start hitting on me! Come take your man away."

Pond gives me the location of the bar, and I quickly grab my room card and car keys, my mind focused on Ae's well-being. I don't care who's calling him my "Phua" or me "Mia" at this point. I drive straight there and park next to the bar, hearing the music blaring from inside and spotting several beautiful women standing near the entrance.

"Ae!!!" I spot Ae swaying on his feet, with Pond supporting him. I rush over to them and see Ae's face is flushed, his eyes glassy from the alcohol.

Grab.

"Ae!!!" As soon as he sees me, he stumbles over and hugs me, reeking of alcohol. Pond comes over to help steady him.

"When Ai'Ae heard you were coming to get him, he staggered out of the bar. I followed him to make sure he didn't start a fight with someone… Can you handle him? Do you need help dragging him upstairs?" Pond's face is flushed, too, but he's much more sober and laughs lightly as he helps me settle Ae into the front passenger seat.

"How much did he drink?"

"I don't know exactly, but it must've been a lot. A couple of glasses wouldn't do this to him. Who knows how many bottles it was—there was both liquor and beer." I'm sure Ae will have a massive headache tomorrow. I turn to thank Pond.

"Thanks, man. I'll take Ae back now."

"Yeah, no problem. Get home safe. I'm crashing at the senior's dorm tonight myself… Take care of him." With that, Pond stumbles back into the bar, leaving me to slide into the driver's seat.

I glance over at Ae, who's slumped against the headrest, and can't decide whether to sigh or smile.

Ae doesn't say a word the entire drive. He just sits there, eyes closed, leaning against the seat. I hurry to get him back to the dorm. The hardest part? Trying to help a staggering drunk person up to my room. Fortunately, Ae isn't the type to cause a scene when drunk. Instead, he becomes completely silent.

By the time I manage to get Ae into the room, I'm exhausted. As soon as we reach the door, Ae starts rubbing my waist, pressing his face into the crook of my neck, and even tries to pull my shirt up over my chest, forcing me to quickly unlock the door.

"Ae, stop. We're going to fall over at this rate."

Thud.

In the end, I manage to push him onto the bed. I sit on the edge, catching my breath for a moment before looking over at him. Ae has his hand draped over his forehead.

"Ae, are you okay?" I move closer to check on him, and he opens his eyes, looking at me through a hazy gaze. I quickly tell him, "I'll wipe you down, okay?"

There's no way he'd feel comfortable sleeping with the stench of alcohol all over him.

Grab.

"Ouch, Ae!"

Before I can get up to grab a towel, Ae grabs my arm and pulls me forward, causing me to fall onto his chest. Then before I can regain my balance, he wraps his arms tightly around my waist.

"Pete, Pete... you smell so good… so, so good..."

"Mmm, Ae, stop it. It tickles," I try to pull away, but it doesn't help at all as Ae's hand slips under my shirt, brushing against my side, making me speak more firmly, "Ae, stop it!"

Pause.

He stops, blinking up at me, so I quickly push myself up to sit.

"Are you mad... mad at me?" he asks in a slurred voice, but somehow, I find it cute.

Ae, with his flushed face and hazy eyes, is asking me in such a pleading tone—swear to God, it's a side of Ae I would never see under normal circumstances. He moves his hand to rest on my lap, brushing up my thigh, over my hip, and slipping back under my shirt.

"Sorry... don't be mad..." I laugh.

Honestly, I can feel the heat where he touches, but Ae acting like a little kid like this makes me laugh as I move to straddle him.

"Ae, you're drunk. Let me wipe you down."

"No! I'm not drunk. I want more..."

"More of what? There's no alcohol in here." Then, I'm left speechless when Ae tilts his head up to look at me, and he pulls me down, making me sit on top of his chest.

That's not all—Ae shifts himself lower until I'm fully sitting on his torso, my legs spread wide as he grips my waist tightly.

"I'll eat this, eat my Mia... I want to eat my Mia... eat you."

"Ahh!" If his idea of "eating" didn't involve mimicking munching right around the crotch of my pants, I wouldn't be making sounds like this. When I try to get up, he grips my waist tightly, and his hand slides up to the middle of my back.

Squeeze.

"Ahh, Ae... Ae, you need to get wiped down." My breath hitches slightly as Ae twists my nipple, and his face remains nuzzled dangerously close to the front of my pants. When I protest, he doesn't listen, so I grip the bedpost tightly, biting my lip as I watch the scene unfolding between us.

"Ahh... Ae... stop... please," I gasp for air more heavily as Ae keeps nuzzling into me, so much that I arch my hips towards him.

Looking up at the ceiling, I admit to myself how utterly excited I am in this position, one we usually never take.

"Ae, more..." I say as I run my hand over his head...

Suddenly, from all the squeezing and kneading, he just stops. I look down at him, only to find... Ae has fallen asleep while nuzzled there.

Squeeze.

I immediately jump up, feeling my face flush red. After a moment, I burst out laughing—loudly—looking at the man who, tonight, called me his Mia, complimented me on being cute, and even said he missed me. Gently stroking his hair, I can't help but lean in and plant a kiss on his rough cheek.

"Leaving me hanging like this and falling asleep? When you wake up, I'll be mad at you, don't say I didn't warn you." I say this to his sleeping face, but I'm not really angry.

I just get up, steady my breath, and grab a towel to wipe him down. Better to clean up while he's still drunk.

Honestly, I'm starting to like this. Should I ask Pond how he spiked Ae's drinks to get him all cuddly like this? Would that be okay?
